Specular Reflection Reduction in Context of Skin Pattern Analysis

A method of combining optical skin images obtained at different illumination angles is proposed to reduce the effect of specular reflection in normal white light clinical skin images in order to avoid optical interference with the analysis of skin line pattern. A weighted average image with weights determined by independent component analysis of the images shows a demonstrable reduction in the high intensity spots arising from specular reflection.
